We value all those who interact with our club, and accordingly we insist on the following rules for the benefit of all our members and third parties. These rules are designed to be fair, simple and largely based upon common sense to ensure everyone can enjoy a safe, professional space.

  1. Everyone has the right to be treated with dignity, respect and consideration. Any person found not to be doing so will be asked to leave.

  2. Safety is our number one concern. If you have any concerns over your safety or the safety of any other person in the class, you should alert your instructor immediately.

  3. The techniques taught in our club must only be used in the defence of life and personal safety outside of the academy.

  4. You should only train at your own pace and if you find the class is moving too fast, or if you do not understand the technique being demonstrated and/or find yourself becoming exhausted, please let an instructor know straight away.

  5. All jewellery to be removed before class.

  6. If you have any injury/medical condition you should let the instructor know before class

  7. If you develop any injuries during a class, you should let the instructor know so they may administer first aid if needed.

  8. Being under the influence of alcohol, drugs or other substances is not tolerated. If we suspect use of alcohol or substances, we can end your membership.

  9. Swearing at or any other form of abusive or anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated and memberships will be revoked.

  10. When you are instructed to stop, you must stop immediately.

  11. The instructor(s) has the ultimate say as to whether they feel you are fit to train or whether a rule has been broken.

  12. Respect the space for others while training.

  13. When training with another student, you are training partners and not rivals. Rei (bow) or touch gloves before and after sparring. Any intentionally bad behaviour or anger towards one another will be sanctioned.

  14. We only allow light sparring.

  15. You can only spar/grapple if you wear the mandatory and approved protective gear (including mouth guard). If you do not wear the protective gear, your insurance is not valid and you are risking yourself and others so you will not be allowed to spar.

  16. If you are sparring/grappling with a training partner, be aware of the risks for yourself and the other person, and agree what types of techniques you will use and that they should be appropriate to age and level.

  17. No heavy head kicks or striking (only placed) to anyone under the age of 18.

If you are unsure about any of the above, you should contact us at nodokamartialarts@outlook.com or speak to the instructor before taking part and discuss any concerns or questions with them.

This code and these club rules may be updated from time to time; it is your responsibility to ensure you’re up to date with the latest.

As per the Service Terms & Conditions, if the etiquette code is not adhered to (as decided by the instructor/Nodoka Martial Arts), disciplinary action can occur, such as demotion in a rank level, postponing gradings, or being expelled from the academy, depending on the severity.
